FORJ serves as Oregon’s statewide ecosystem builder, connecting publishers, educators, funders, and civic partners to strengthen the shared infrastructure that sustains independent, community-rooted local journalism. Here's who we support:

Independent rural, small‑town, and emerging print, digital, nonprofit, for‑profit, and hybrid local news publishers across Oregon who are deeply embedded in the communities they serve. These are the newsrooms most vulnerable to becoming news deserts and the ones most essential to civic trust, public accountability, and community connection.

Communities at risk of becoming or already experiencing news deserts.

The next generation of journalists including high school students, community college students, and early‑career journalists—especially those from underrepresented or rural communities who have historically lacked pathways into journalism.

Civic partners, educators, funders, and institutions that rely on trusted local information and believe in the value of civic trust and an informed citizenry.
